Espai Formica is a collaborative academic/professional project, developed between Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), led by the design studio musing-selles, based in Madrid and New York, for the Formica Group.

The project was presented during Barcelona Design Week 2022 in one of the warehouses of the Nau Bostik complex. Leading the design studio, students were tasked to develop a project with a real architectural scope and clients, and to pose important questions on the social relevance of architectural practice and the implications of built form.

Within the framework of objectives of the “New European Bauhaus” initiative, faculty and students developed in collaboration an intervention that seeking to review and question the capacity of collective, public and private spaces to adapt to a changing society and contribute to a new common sense of space and, therefore, a new collective sense of belonging. The project develops an ephemeral architectural intervention to reactivate one of the warehouses within the Nau Bostik complex in a new decapitalized, non-hierarchical and inclusive space for the community.
